Creatures, Monsters, and Aminals: Etsy Plush Art
November 12th, 2008
I was so exhausted after getting back from Quilt Market that despite being so excited and inspired by all the wonderful patterns and designs and fabric I saw, I just haven’t been able to get moving again. I have managed to write out some new ideas, make some sketches, but as far as actual work? Not a thing. In fact, my sewing area is an official disaster area from the manic last-minute work before Quilt Market.
But before the hard work of cleaning up begins, I’ve decided to ratchet up my motivation by doing a little Etsy-mining and share my finds with you. My friend and coworker Adrienne really got me going just before Halloween with a monster (hehheh) list of links for all things spooky, but I lazily failed to post it when it was relevant. So instead, the first Etsy post will all things plush.
I’ve made a handful of stuffed toys over the past couple years, but seeing the variety and creativity on Etsy is incredible–and incredibly motivating. Check these out, and let me know which is your favorite.

The WibblyWoo is my favorite…I love creatures that have a bit of an edge to them.

A little weird is good, huh? I love the Wibbly Woo’s snaggleteeth, and the fact that his mouth is a big pocket.

Great etsy list! Despite my love of octopi great and small, I think I still have to pick the lovely “Martha” if only for her Pan’s Labyrinth like horns and features!

They’re all fun, but since I’m a Crazy Cat Lady, I have to go with Gretel the cat. But then I really like the sweet bunny and the eyeballs are fun and…oh hell, I can’t choose!

I love Etsy. Dangerous on a quiet Friday at work. Yikes! They are all pretty cute but I love the blue bunny. So simple but sweet!

They’re ALL really cool, but my favorites are morninglory, the blissed out fox, the little crocheted bunny, and the snaggletoothed one. The one that’s just a post with eyes or spots is like, WHaaaaattt? Very funky.

Hi Cassie,
Congrats on the new book, I’m ordering a copy today from my local LQS. You’re a very talented young woman and I wish you the best! Hope to see you at Market in the spring!

Cassie,
I buy alot of sewing-project books and actually use them. I used your book to sew bags for my son’s teachers and beloved family members. Your instructions allowed me to make each project without mistakes. Everything measured up correctly, you included illustrations where needed and did not confuse this outside-of-the-box thinker. I am really pleased and impressed. The last few books I have gotten recently have all had gross errors in the instructions which I find frustrating!
Your book is beautiful, inspiring, and exciting! Thank you!

I love your blog…so pretty! I like them all, but I’m going to have to go with the uber-cute red-riding-hood bunny! Or would that be orange-riding-hood bunny?

Sue, thank you so much for your kind words! I’m SO glad that everything has gone together so well. I have to thank the editors at Martingale, though, they are fabulous and catch everything.
Thanks again, and I can’t wait to hear about any more projects that you make!

Hey Erica, thanks for visiting! I can’t decide which is my favorite, honestly
