About Me

This is a little biographical page about me! Cassie Barden, author of The New Handmade: Simple Sewing for Contemporary Style.

I live in Seattle, Washington and work as a graphic and web designer. I’m passionate about design, art, craft, and technology. My favorite color is green, specifically spring or lime greens, though I do love me some hot and salmon pinks! Some of my favorite foods include anything vegetarian Thai (especially peanut sauce), nectarines, and vegetarian sushi. I’m obsessed with dogs, though I don’t have one of my own (yet!). I’m a movie buff and even went to film school for a few years in another life. My favorite tv shows include 30 Rock, Battlestar Gallactica, Project Runway (duh), and CSI before my tv-husband William Peterson decided to jump ship. Le Sigh. I adore the contemporary art scenes in Southern California and the Bay Area, and recently bought my first real art. I was a painter for a whole year and fell absolutely in love…eventually I’ll pick it up again.

And I sew! I learned as a kid but never stuck with it until college, when a friend’s interest reignited my own. My mom took up quilting, which she passed on to me (along with a raging fabric addiction), and here we are.

Please leave a comment to say hi, and if you’ve made something from The New Handmade that you’d like to share, please post your photo to The New Handmade Flickr Group! It’s open to all, you only need a Flickr account. I’d love to see what you’ve done, and hear about your experiences with the book. Thanks for visiting!

Cheers,
Cassie
